SASC Advances Kahl Nomination on a Tie Vote
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the Senate Armed Services Committee voted 13-13 to report the nomination of Dr. Colin Kahl to be Under Secretary of Defense for Policy. Pursuant to Senate rules, the tie vote now functionally advances the nominee to consideration by the full U.S. Senate.
Chairman Jack Reed (D-RI) transmitted notice of a tie vote to the Secretary of the Senate, which allows the Majority Leader to make a motion to discharge the nomination. Debate on the discharge is limited to four hours, equally divided. If the nominee is discharged, the nominee is then immediately placed on the calendar for consideration by the full U.S. Senate at a date and time to be determined by the Senate Majority Leader.
