Reed Statement on Tuberville Dropping Military Promotions Hold
WASHINGTON, DC—For nearly a year, U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) has blocked the promotions of all senior military leaders, now totaling 445 officers, over his partisan disagreement with a Department of Defense reproductive healthcare policy. Today, Senator Tuberville announced that he is dropping most of his holds, with the exception of four-star generals and admirals.
Following this announcement, U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI), the Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, issued the following statement:
“I am glad that hundreds of our nation’s finest military leaders will finally receive their hard-won, merit-based promotions. They, and their families, have shown us what grace and grit look like in the face of hardship.
“Senator Tuberville’s actions have been an affront to the United States military and the Senate. He has jeopardized our national security and abused the rights afforded to all Senators.
“No Senator should ever attempt to advance their own partisan agenda on the backs of our troops like this again.”
