WASHINGTON, DC – After news broke late last night that former President Donald Trump was indicted by a grand jury in Georgia on several criminal charges, including violating the state’s racketeering act; soliciting a public officer to violate their oath; conspiring to impersonate a public officer; conspiring to commit forgery in the first degree; and conspiring to file false documents, U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) issued the following statement:

“Once again, former President Trump stands indicted for subverting our democracy and our rights to free and fair elections.  This is not a Democrats versus Republicans matter. These are criminal indictments by a grand jury after months of evidence and deliberations.  Now the former president can make his defense in the court room, not on the streets, and not through violence or intimidation, but through facts.  He deserves the same fair and impartial treatment as every other person who has been indicted for running a criminal enterprise.  No one is above the law.”
