Reed Statement on Shots Fired at Trump Golf Course
PROVIDENCE, RI – Today, after reports indicated that a person pointed an AK-47-type rifle with a scope into the Trump International Golf Course in Florida while former President Donald Trump was playing a round of golf and the would-be gunman was fired upon by the Secret Service and apprehended, U.S. Senator Jack Reed issued the following statement:
“Political violence has no place in America, and an AK-47 has no place near a golf course or near a presidential candidate. I’m relieved to hear former President Trump is safe and was several holes away from the potential gunman. I commend security personnel, including the Secret Service, for quickly spotting and neutralizing the perpetrator and taking proper precautions to rush the former President to safety. I urge law enforcement to be forthcoming with the facts so the American people have as much information as possible. The alleged perpetrator must be held accountable and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
