Reed Statement on Saudi Arabia Admitting to Killing Jamal Khashoggi in Turkish Consulate
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, after Saudi Arabia finally admitted that Washington Post journalist and U.S. resident Jamal Khashoggi was killed inside its consulate in Istanbul, U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI), the Ranking Member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, issued the following statement:
“This is an admission of guilt, but the Saudis still aren’t coming clean with the truth. This appears to have been a deliberate, planned act followed by a cover up. You don’t bring 15 men and a bone saw to a fist fight with a 60 year old. And if he was accidentally killed in a fist fight, then where is the body?
“The Saudi’s latest version of events still isn’t credible and the Trump Administration must not be complicit in allowing them to sweep this under the rug. We must demand an independent investigation and an honest accounting of what transpired. Follow the evidence wherever it leads and bring justice to those responsible.”
