Reed Statement on President Trump Telling Russians he Fired Comey to Relieve “Great Pressure”
WASHINGTON, DC - Today, following a disturbing New York Times report that President Donald Trump bragged to two top Russian officials last week that firing FBI Director James Comey eased "great pressure" on him, U.S. Senator Jack Reed issued the following statement:
“This is another shocking development that underscores an unsettling pattern of poor choices by President Trump.
“While the Trump Administration seems to think this is all okay, I’m hard pressed to think anyone believes it was smart or appropriate for President Trump to give high-level classified information to the Russians and brag about blocking an FBI investigation in the Oval Office.
“The good news is there is a now a Special Prosecutor and a similar investigation by the Senate Intelligence Committee into these matters because our great country is a nation of laws.”
