WASHINGTON, DC – Today, after the White House announced that President Trump and the First Lady tested positive for COVID-19, U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) issued the following statement:

“Like all Americans, I am concerned about the health of the President and First Lady.  They have now joined the ranks of over 7 million other Americans who have been infected by this virus.

“This diagnosis is a jarring reminder that COVID remains a serious threat and nobody is immune.

“Hopefully the President, First Lady, and their staff who’ve been infected all fully recover.  I also hope the contact tracing for all those around them moves as swiftly as possible so people get the care they need.

“I urge every Rhode Islander to keep following the best public health practices to reduce transmission and protect one another.  Wearing a mask, social distancing, and self-quarantining are all critical tools in this fight.”
