WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Jack Reed, Ranking Member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, issued the following statement in response to the President’s latest announcement on North Korea:

“When it comes to North Korea caution and skepticism are always warranted.

“Time will tell if North Korea matches its words with actions.  And we, along with our partners, must hold them accountable and ensure they comply with their international obligations to dismantle their nuclear weapons program.

“Sitting at the table is the easy part.  Solving this problem is hard, and, in order to seize this opening, President Trump needs a robust and empowered State Department to deliver consistent messaging to create the diplomatic space for meaningful dialogue.”
