WASHINGTON, DC - Today, U.S. Senator Jack Reed released the following statement on U.S. Representative Patrick Kennedy's decision to not seek re-election in 2010:

"Patrick Kennedy skillfully represented the people of Rhode Island for over half his life at all levels of government. His passion and commitment to improving the lives of Rhode Island's working families has benefitted our state and the nation.

"Like his father, he is a dedicated public servant who strove to give voice to those who were often overlooked, to help those who needed help so they could contribute to this great country.

"He has been a valued colleague and friend, and I will continue working with him to meet the challenges before us and get our economy back on track."
