Reed Statement on Flynn’s Resignation
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, after National Security Adviser Michael Flynn resigned from the Trump Administration, U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI), the top Democrat on the Armed Services Committee, issued the following statement:
“This resignation of General Flynn underscores the serious disarray of the Trump Administration’s national security policy. That disorganization and disarray has to stop.
“I believe that they have to restore the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff as a permanent, full member of the National Security Council, and I think they should remove Mr. Bannon because they don’t need a political operative, they need experienced professionals. That’s who should constitute the National Security Council.
“In addition, I think this once again raises the issue of the Russian connection to the Trump Administration – to their policies, to personnel who work there, and who may still be working there, and that has to be explored intensively and the American people have to have all the facts.
“As I said earlier, Congress should establish a bipartisan committee to investigate Russian interference in our election.”
