Reed Statement on Federal Court Ruling Against Trump’s Plan to Add Controversial Citizenship Question to 2020 Census
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, after a U.S. District Court Judge blocked the Trump Administration from adding a citizenship question to the 2020 Decennial Census and found that Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross violated the law, U.S. Senator Jack Reed issued the following statement:
“It is important to conduct a fair and accurate count of all persons in our country. The Trump Administration is attempting to undercount minority communities in a way that could take away federal resources and even perhaps representation in the U.S. House of Representatives.
“This ruling is a win for our Constitutional principles and a rebuke of the Trump Administration’s attempt to ignore, and in some cases violate, the law.”
