Reed Statement on Deadly Mass-Shooting at Maryland Newspaper
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Jack Reed today released the following statement on the deadly mass-shooting at Capital Gazette headquarters in Annapolis, Maryland:
“Our hearts go out to the journalists and staff of the Capital Gazette and the community they faithfully serve.
"As investigators continue to gather facts about this targeted attack on the paper, there are no easy answers, but it is clear that this individual shouldn't have had access to firearms and there is more we as a nation can do to prevent gun violence.
“From red flag laws to improving background checks to increasing research into gun violence, there is more we can do -- if only our elected leaders will summon the courage to match brave first responders, teachers, and ordinary citizens who have rushed to the aid of innocent victims."
