Reed Statement on CBO Score of House-passed Trumpcare Bill
Non-partisan CBO report shows Trumpcare bill would leave 23 million Americans uninsured
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released an updated score of the Trumpcare bill. CBO found that the bill passed by House Republicans earlier this month would leave 23 million Americans without health insurance over 10 years. After the analysis was released, U.S. Senator Jack Reed issued the following statement:
“Today, CBO confirmed that the House-passed Trumpcare bill would result in higher health costs, reduced coverage, and 23 million fewer Americans insured.
“It is also important to note that the House-passed Trumpcare bill takes away the ACA’s coverage guarantees for all Americans and places a defacto age tax on older Americans.
“Coupled with President Trump’s call to cut $800 billion from Medicaid, slash over $64 billion from Social Security benefits for vulnerable Americans, and reduce the Children’s Health Insurance Program by at least 20 percent, the Republican’s Trumpcare bill would be an unmitigated disaster for the American people and our health care system.
“If the CBO score were a report card, Republicans would get an F. It was irresponsible for Republicans to rush this bill through the House before the American people could see all the facts.
“Now that CBO has spoken, Republicans need to stop trying to weaken the health care safety net and start working on a bipartisan basis to actually strengthen health coverage for Americans and improve the overall health of our nation.”
