Reed Statement on Bourbon Street Terrorist Attack in New Orleans
PROVIDENCE, RI -- U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI), issued the following statement on the 3 a.m. New Year’s Day terrorist attack by an assailant who intentionally drove a pickup truck into a crowd of people on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, Louisiana killing a number of people and injuring dozens more:
“This was a cowardly attack and it’s being actively investigated by numerous local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies in a coordinated manner. Anyone who played any role in planning this attack must be captured, held accountable, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. This is an active investigation and the priority remains following every lead, ensuring public safety, and keeping the public informed. Our hearts go out to the victims of this horrific attack and we are grateful to the brave first responders who rushed to help. Their courage and dedication is what America is all about. Our citizens will not live in fear but will overcome hate with unity and justice.”
