Reed Statement on Appointment of Rear Adm. Walter Carter to Head U.S. Naval Academy
CRANSTON, RI – U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) today released the following statement regarding President Obama’s selection of Rear Admiral Walter Carter to be the next Superintendent of the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD:
“I am pleased President Obama has nominated Rear Admiral Walter Carter to be the next Superintendent of the U.S. Naval Academy. Rear Admiral Carter has served with distinction as President of the Naval War College in Newport, and I have great confidence in his ability to lead the Naval Academy, his alma mater. While his departure is a loss for our state and the Naval War College, it is comforting to know a native Rhode Islander will have a hand in preparing the next generation of professional military officers of character and commitment in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. I offer Rear Admiral Carter my congratulations, best wishes, and steadfast support in this new endeavor, and look forward to his tenure as Superintendent.”
