Reed Reacts to British and Danish Plans for Troop Withdrawal from Iraq
WASHINGTON, DC -- Today, following British Prime Minister Tony Blair's announcement that he will soon order thousands of British troops to withdraw from Iraq, and Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen's announcement that Denmark will withdraw all of its 460 troops stationed in Iraq this summer, U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) issued the following statement: "The British and Danish decisions to withdraw leaves us increasingly isolated in Iraq. The coalition, which was never sufficiently robust to begin with, has all but disappeared. This is not a good development when you consider that these British and Danish forces could have been used to seal the borders or shifted to other areas of concern like Baghdad or Anbar province," said Reed, a member of the Armed Services Committee.
