Reed Presents Distinguished Flying Cross to 91 year old World War II Veteran
CRANSTON, RI – Today, U.S. Senator Jack Reed, a graduate of West Point and former Army Ranger, presented the Distinguished Flying Cross to World War II veteran Bernard Creswick of Warwick. Mr. Creswick, served as a Technical Sergeant in the United Sates Army Air Force and had tours of duty throughout the Pacific, including Pearl Harbor, the Northern Solomons, and Midway during World War II.
Mr. Creswick is among six surviving Rhode Islanders who were veterans of Pearl Harbor who will be honored at the State House on December 7 to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor and to honor the veterans of that event.
In addition to the Distinguished Flying Cross, Mr. Creswick received the Air Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation, the American Defense Service Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Honorable Service Lapel Button.
During the ceremony, the citation Reed presented to Mr. Creswick read: “Attention to orders: The following award is announced the ‘The Distinguished Flying Cross with 1 Bronze Star,’ is awarded to Sergeant Bernard C. Creswick, for extraordinary achievement during battle while serving with the United States Army Air Force against an armed enemy of the United States during World War II. Sergeant Creswick’s dedication to duty was in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflects great credit upon himself, the United States Air Force and the Unites States of America.”
