PROVIDENCE, RI- In response to the U.S. Navy's release today of $1.2 billion for the construction of the 14th Virginia-class submarine, SSN-787, to General Dynamics Electric Boat, Senator Jack Reed, Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Seapower, released the following statement:

"Today's announcement is good news for Electric Boat's many Rhode Island workers and our state's economy. I have fought tirelessly to fund this program along with my colleagues, and this is an important step in difficult times."
