Reed Hails Passage of Veterans Jobs Bill
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, after the U.S. Senate voted 94 to 1 to increase employment opportunities for veterans and help boost the economy, U.S. Senator Jack Reed issued the following statement:
“Our veterans deserve our help as they transition from their military service to their civilian lives. I am pleased my colleagues have come together to demonstrate our gratitude to our brave men and women in uniform, particularly as we prepare to celebrate Veterans Day,” said Reed, a member of the Armed Services Committee and a former Army Ranger.
The VOW to Hire Heroes Act will provide incentives for businesses to hire veterans by offering tax credits, job training workshops, and education and training opportunities for unemployed veterans. Senator Reed joined President Obama in a Rose Garden ceremony earlier this week to help urge passage of the veterans jobs bill and to unveil immediate initiatives to help our nation’s veterans find jobs.
“Our veterans have valuable leadership and technical skills that will help improve our workforce and economy. This legislation will provide them the tools they need to apply those skills to help get our economy going,” said Reed.
