Reed Denounces Trump’s Decision to Commute Prison Sentence of Convicted Felon & Close Adviser Roger Stone
PROVIDENCE, RI – Today, U.S. Senator Jack Reed issued the following statement in response to President Trump’s commutation of his longtime adviser’s prison sentence for felony crimes:
“Commuting Roger Stone’s sentence is an unethical favor for President Trump’s accomplice and a real disservice to the American people. The facts haven’t changed: Roger Stone is still a convicted felon, regardless of whether he spends a minute behind bars. This must be a bitter disappointment to Republicans who rejected impeachment in the misguided hope that President Trump would change, but no one can claim it is a shock.
“The President likes to
talk about law and order, but this Friday night move exposed that President
Trump thinks there should be one set of rules for him and another for everyone
else. The American people are the ultimate judge and jury and I am
confident they will render a just verdict on Election Day.”
