PROVIDENCE, RI – Today, after Governor Dan McKee nominated Providence City Council President Sabina Matos to be the next Lieutenant Governor of Rhode Island, U.S. Senator Jack Reed issued the following statement:

“I congratulate Sabina Matos for being nominated to this post and I commend Governor McKee for making this historic nomination.

“Ms. Matos has a strong record of advocating for the people of Providence.  She is a proven leader, a thoughtful listener, and a real problem solver who will be a strong voice for all Rhode Islanders.

“Her story of hard work, success, and achievement as someone who immigrated to the United States as a young person serves as a great example and resonates widely.  Throughout her career she has shown a commitment to improving schools and infrastructure and fostering inclusion.  So I think she’ll continue to be someone who helps the state make real progress in this new role.”
