Washington, DC – Continuing their efforts to boost manufacturing jobs in Rhode Island and across America, U.S. Senators Jack Reed (D-RI) and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) recently met with representatives from the Alliance for American Manufacturing to hear how a recent study shows that Americans want Congress to work on policies to bring manufacturing jobs back to this country.  Senators Jay Rockefeller (D-WV), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Charles Schumer (D-NY), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) also attended the meeting.

“Global competition presents a challenge for Rhode Island manufacturers, and I will continue to advocate for programs that level the playing field, help our companies to grow and prosper, and create new jobs,” said Whitehouse.

“There is nothing weighing heavier on Rhode Islanders’ minds right now than jobs. Manufacturing has always been part of Rhode Island’s economy, and we need to make sure these companies and their employees have a level playing field so they can compete fairly in the global marketplace,” said Reed.  

The study, conducted by the Alliance for American Manufacturing, showed that Americans overwhelmingly want Washington to focus on creating manufacturing jobs, which they view as a crucial contributor to our nation’s economic strength.  The study also showed that nine out of ten Americans favor policies, such as strong trade enforcement and incentives for companies that make products in the United States, that will support the manufacturing industry.  The Senators in attendance at the meeting discussed a plan to bolster the economy and create quality manufacturing jobs in the United States.
