On 4th Anniversary of Sandy Hook Shooting, Reed Calls on Congress to Take Action to Prevent Gun Violence
PROVIDENCE, RI – U.S. Senator Jack Reed today issued the following statement on the fourth anniversary of the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut:
“The Sandy Hook massacre is an unfathomable tragedy. Today, we remember the innocent victims we lost and the brave teachers, administrators, and first responders who tried to save them. We as a nation must do more to prevent gun violence. Too many families have suffered tragic losses and hardships as a result of unnecessary gun deaths and injuries.
“It is also unfathomable that Congress hasn’t done more to help prevent these types of tragedies from recurring. We need bipartisan, commonsense action. Congress must work together to pass new federal gun safety laws aimed at making current background checks universal, closing loopholes to prevent unsuitable persons from acquiring firearms, and shutting down the pipeline of illegal guns.”
