Reed Statement on President Trump’s Pardon of Joe Arpaio
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Jack Reed issued the following statement today after President Trump pardoned the controversial former Sheriff Joe Arpaio, an ardent Trump campaign supporter, who was convicted in July of criminal contempt:
“All Americans should be outraged by the way President Trump pardoned Mr. Arpaio.
“Mr. Arpaio abused his power as a law officer, even after the courts ordered him to stop because his actions were unconstitutional.
“This is another example of President Trump endorsing discrimination. The President may have the authority to pardon, but the American people have the ultimate power to hold him accountable.”
