Senator Reed joined Senator Whitehouse and Congressman Cicilline in awarding Raymond Haerry, a West Warwick resident and survivor of the 1941 Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, with a certificate of appreciation and an American flag. As a 20-year-old coxswain on the day of the assault, Mr. Hearry was hurled off the USS Arizona during the attack. He swam to a nearby island and manned a machine gun before spending the rest of the day retrieving bodies from the water. Mr. Haerry is now one of only six living survivors from the USS Arizona.
