Senator Reed presented awards at the 25th Annual Rhode Island Envirothon competition, held at URI’s Gardner Crops Research Center.  Rhode Island Envirothon (RIE) works to educate and develop knowledgeable, skilled, and dedicated citizens who are willing and prepared to work towards achieving and maintaining a natural balance between the quality of life and the quality of the environment.  Each year in May, RIE holds a one-day, outdoor competition as the culmination of its year-long program of environmental study.  Each competition is divided into five different segments: Aquatics, Forestry, Soils & Land Use, and Wildlife, plus a special Environmental Issue which changes annually.  This year the special topic was “Agriculture and the Environment: Knowledge and Technology to Feed the World.”
