Senator Reed joined Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien and members of the Rhode Island Congressional delegation in welcoming a new class of Pawtucket fire recruits at Fire Station 4 on Cottage Street. Senator Reed, a member of the Appropriations Committee, helped lead efforts to secure $2,448,938 in federal funding to assist Pawtucket with recruiting, hiring, training and retaining firefighters. Pawtucket was awarded a federal Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant to help the City fund the hiring of 13 firefighter positions. Reed helped make $345 million available for Fire Grants and SAFER hiring grants nationwide in the latest Omnibus Appropriations law.
