Senator Reed joined the Rhode Island Coastal Resources Management Council (CRMC) and community partners to celebrate the completion of the first phase of habitat restoration efforts at Quonochontaug Pond.  Representatives from federal, state, and local partners, including NOAA Fisheries, the Town of Charlestown, Save the Bay, the Salt Ponds Coalition, and others were also in attendance.  In 2017, Senator Reed, a member of the Appropriations Committee, led efforts to secure nearly $1 million through the NOAA coastal resilience grant program to restore thirty acres of degraded marsh in Quonochontaug Pond, which spans Charlestown and Westerly, as well as an adjacent area used for recreational fishing.  The project builds on previous restoration efforts in the area, which were funded by a 2014 Hurricane Sandy Coastal Resiliency award, also secured with help from Senator Reed.
